Man’s Favorite Place At Home

If a woman’s place is in the kitchen, what is the man’s place in the home? One of the woman’s main preoccupations is cooking meals for the family, and the man too has a favorite place where he can be found most of the time. It is the garage that the man considers his exclusive territory. It is full of the things a man loves most. Walls are lined with row after row of tools. He might be careless about other things, but you cannot say the same about his tools and he knows the precise location of each.

Aside from his carpentry and masonry tools, a man also keeps garden implements like lawn mowers, the spade, rakes, and pruning shears which are also stored in the garage. A man takes pride in his collection of tools and he will not only keep it in cabinets but will actually display it in the garage for everybody to see and envy.

Above all else the garage is built to house the car, man’s friend, companion and the center of his attention. That men love cars is a fact that needs no explanation. To be sure, they treat their car like their women, with tender loving care. They would like nothing better than to restore vintage cars, or go visiting the latest car shows in town, or show off their latest two-door European brute. And the garage is the starting place for all of this. In the garage is where men spend hour after hour working on their cars and making improvements on them. Most of the time, a man is introduced to cars by watching and learning from his father as a boy in the garage. The love for cars is a trait common to most men. It is not uncommon for a gathering of many families to end up with the women in the kitchen and the men huddled in the garage. There men share beer, cigars, and stories. Men being men, they have lots in common and share many pursuits and will not be lacking in subjects to talk about. They will swap stories about their last fishing trips, what they are building at the backyard for the kids, and the talk will inevitably turn to cars. The garage really is a place of friendship for men.

So, the next time your husband or father cannot be found when dinner is on the table, look no further than the garage. It is almost sure that he can be found out there, fixing something you didn’t know was broken or trying to make something he has a little bit bigger, better or faster. The dog is the man’s best friend is more of a figure of speech (what about the women?); the garage is closer to the truth. Men after all can be allergic to dogs, but never to the garage.
