Planning Tips For Building A Carport

My car has now been made homeless from the garage due to the collection af various items, sucha as furniture, over the years. If I had built a storage shed years ago, this would not be a problem but unfortunately I didn’t.

The car is fine outside, most of the time, but the birds do mess on it and it gets dirty pretty quickly. This often leaves me having to spend precious Sunday mornings cleaning. After some thought, I decided the best solution was to build a carport and find some good plans.

Initially, I thought I would draw my own plans and get started with the building straight away. unfortunately, this was not the case and it proved to be a much bigger undertaking than I thought it would be. I decided instead to go inline and find some plans for a building that I could easily build myself, that would meet the local building regulations and that would look good.

With the plans comes a comprehensive list of all the tools and materials needed. It also lists the quantities required and all the hardware to ensure that the project would go without a hitch.

I had to make sure that the carport was adequately anchored down to the foundations. We do occasionally experience high winds in my area which can cause problems. The carprot does not have any wall and so strong winds can lift it like an umbrella and destroy it if it is not anchored properly.

Another factor was the collection of snow on the roof in winter. The roof had to be able to support the extra pounds in weight of snowfall. This is achieved with a correctly pitched roof that allows heavy collections of snow to just fall away.

Eventually, I settled on a set of plans which addressed all these issues. After obtaining the necessary building permit, I set to work on ordering all the hardware and materials. It just went to reinforce my view that correct planning can foresee any potential problems and overcome them before they happen. Over a weekend, with a friend, the carport was finally built.
