Before you attempt to do any decluttering, pick a goal, (a smaller, easier goal is actually better than a larger goal) and then do not deviate from the necessary steps to accomplish that goal. Resist getting distracted and branching off into other tasks. Keep your eyes on that goal, and nothing else! Don’t focus on the whole clutter problem, just worry about getting your one goal accomplished.

Why do I harp on the importance of this so much? Accomplishing a goal, no matter how small it may be, gives you something you can see real positive results in. But more importantly it is a big morale boost for you; it feels great to accomplish goals and motivates you to do more. By taking on your clutter problem one step at a time you’ll soon have a comfortable, organized home you can be proud of.
