How To Protect Your Car From The Weather
For many people, their car is one of their biggest and most costly items of expenditure, second to their house. Needless to say then, it represents an asset that ought to be properly protected if it is to provide good service throughout its working life.
No car will wear well if it’s left to the mercy of the sun, rain, frost, dust, bird droppings, tree pollen and so on. And of course, many people take a certain amount of pride in their car’s appearance and like it stay looking good more than two days after they last washed it.
This is where a carport comes in. These are a relatively (compared to a full blown garage) low cost way to afford your car the protection it needs. You can also choose from a variety of styles and sizes to best match you own requirements and budget.
When it comes to selecting a particular carport, the first decision you need to make is whether you intend to install it yourself or engage a contractor to do it for you. Although some people design completely custom carports, mostly it is a matter of putting together a kit containing all the various elements.
The issue is whether you feel comfortable about undertaking this work yourself or would be happier paying a contractor to install the kit for you. Very often the supplier will offer an installation service anyway. But much will depend on the kit itself, since some are aimed more at the standard DIY market and others require a higher level of skill.
The next big decision is the choice of material. While wood carports are unquestionably easier on the eye and generally of a high quality, they cost more than metal versions. For which reason metal carports tend to be more commonly found.
What is slightly surprising about wood carports is the fact that they are quite sought after in European countries, but much less so in America. Whether this has anything to do with the fact that they are mostly more demanding as regards construction is not clear.
But wherever you’re located, there is little doubt that if you can stretch to the additional cost and installation complexity, then a wood carport will prove a long term investment that not only helps protect your car, but also enhances your whole property aesthetically.
