Most people do not realize how important it is to give your time to others who are in need. It gives a sense of humbleness and reminds you of all the things you should be thankful for.

Students may not be willing to do the work for free, but maybe they would be interested to know that volunteering makes them an important part of their community and it will motivate their peers to do the same.

If the youth who happens to volunteer is part of a class, you can give them points to reward to them for all the volunteer work they do during a certain period of time.

This way, they would be more open to volunteering and helping others during their spare time. The more hours they put in, the more points or merits they receive. You can even give out big awards at the end of the school term or year.

Another way to add some more fun to volunteering is to create groups or teams amongst the class. Allow them to rotate jobs amongst each team so that they all get to do different jobs.

Be sure to congratulate your students on the work they do and make it a big deal for the entire class to see what their peers are doing. Constant encouragement is very important because it will make the students want to keep up the good work.

If students who are volunteering gets a better grade in class than the students who don’t, this may also be great motivation for other students.

With just a little praise, motivation and encouragement the students will really be more involved in helping their community and others.
